Box Score Glenside, PA (December 12, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (5-3, 3-2 MCOM) used a 14-2 second half run to take a nine point lead and held off the Widener University Pride (2-6, 2-3 MCOM) tonight for a 78-64 victory. The Knights trailed by three before making the run to take the lead back for good. Travis Saltus led six double figure scorers with 15 points for Arcadia.
The Knights won the tip, but Widener scored the first eight points and 14 of the first 18 points to take a 14-4 lead at the 15:21 mark. The Pride led 25-15, but an 11-0 run gave Arcadia their first lead at 26-25 with 6:01 to play in the first half. The score pin balled back and forth and was tied at 31-31.
The Knights then hit three pointers on consecutive possessions to take a 37-31 lead at the 2:50 mark. The Pride scored six straight to tie the score at 37-37 with less than 90-seconds to play. Widener scored the final three points of the half and took a 40-39 lead into the break.
Malcolm Still scored eight points to lead Arcadia. Bob Makor scored 12 points to lead Widener. The Pride shot 60 % from the field, while the Knights shot 50%. Widener out rebounded Arcadia 19-14 and both team committed 11 turnovers in the first half.
Arcadia tied the game at 40 on their first possession, but Widener took the lead back and led 46-43 at the 17:16 mark. The Knights then used a 14-2 run to expand their advantage to nine at 57-48 with 11:02 to play. The Pride got to within seven points at 61-54, but Arcadia scored the next six points to take their first double digit lead of the game, 67-54 with 8:08 to play.
Widener tried to make a comeback, but could only get as close as six points in the final minutes. Arcadia scored 10 of their last 12 points from the line and the final margin of 14 points was their largest lead of the game.
Saltus was 6-9 from the floor, including 3-4 from behind the arc with three rebounds and four assists.
Joe Brown finished with 12 points, while
Khalief Trawick and Still added 11 points.
Colin McCarthy and Jose Figeroa each had 10 points. Makor led the Pride with 18 points, while Greg Lawson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Widener outshot Arcadia 44% to 39%, but the Knights had a slight rebounding advantage 46-45.
Arcadia will return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Penn State-Abington for a 3pm tip-off.
