Women's Basketball Falls to Widener

Box Score Glenside, PA (December 12, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (4-5, 0-5 MCOM) fell to the Widener University Pride (7-2, 4-2 MCOM) tonight, 106-71. Widener used a 24-2 run in the first half to open up a 29-point led and put the game away early. Valerie DiMuro led Arcadia, recording a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds.

The Knights won the tip, scored first and the score was tied a 4-4 just over a minute in. The Pride then went on a 12-3 run to take a nine-point lead, 16-7 with 15:19 to play in the first half. Arcadia trailed 20-13 and then Widener went on a 24-2 run that made the score 44-15 at the 7:19 mark. The Pride led by as many as 35 in the first half and took a 65-30 lead into the break.

DiMuro scored 10 points to lead Arcadia. Widener was led by Kate Dellinger who scored 23 first half points. The Pride shot 64% from the field in the first half, while the Knights shot 41%. Widener held a slight edge on the boards, 21-18 and forced 18 turnovers, while committing just five.

Widener continued to hold the large lead for the entire second half. Arcadia could only get as close as 34 points and the Pride led by as many as 41 points before winning by the 35-point margin.

DiMuro was 10-14 from the field and had five blocks. Maureen Fiocca added 15 points, while Samantha Caligiuri had 10 points. Dellinger finished with 23 points to lead Widener. The Pride shot 56% to Arcadia's 38%. The Knights won the board battle 49-47, but turned the ball over 25 times and forced just 13.

Arcadia will hit the road on Saturday afternoon as they travel to play Penn State-Abington. Tip-off is slated for 1pm.
