Box Score Abington, PA (December 15, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (6-5) broke their five-game losing streak this afternoon with a 69-65 win over the Penn State-Abington Nittany Lions. The Knights led 39-32 at the break, but trailed by as many as four in the second half before coming away with the victory. Sam Caligiuri scored 18 points to lead Arcadia.
Arcadia scored the first five points of the contest to take an early lead and led 11-5 with 13:41 to play in the first half. A 7-0 run by Penn State gave them their first lead at 12-11 with 11:27 to play. The score was then tied at 16-16. The Nittany went ahead 26-20, but a 19-0 run by the Knights gave them a 39-26 lead at the 2:18 mark. Penn State scored the final six points of the half to make the half time score 39-32 Knights.
Penn State then started the second on a 12-0 run to take a 44-39 lead a little more than two minutes into the second half. Arcadia stayed close and took the lead back for good at the 8:39 mark, 54-53. They extended the advantage to as many as seven in the minutes and won by the four point margin.
Caligiuri was 7-17 from the field and had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Maureen Fiocca scored 11 points and
Morgan Wensley scored 10 points off the bench.
Valerie DiMuro had 12 rebounds. Jessica Schmidt had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Penn State.
The Knights will now have a couple of weeks off before returning to action on December 30th when they host Cairn for a 2pm tip-off in Alumni Gym.
