Women's Lacrosse Tops Wilkes 22-12 for First Freedom Win

GLENSIDE, PA (April 14, 2012) -  Arcadia University Women's Lacrosse returned to winning form this afternoon at Easton Field, where they produced their first win in Freedom Conference play, a 22-12 victory over visiting Wilkes University.  Jaclyn Feffer '15 notched 6 goals and 8 draw controls, both game highs while Jenna Crothers '14 scored 5 goals and dished out 4 assists (9 pts.) to lead the Knights on offense.

Today's win marked a 2012 season-high for goal scoring with 7 different players locating the net for Arcadia.  The victory also stops a two-game Freedom Conference skid dead in it's tracks as the Knights improve to 1-3 in the league (5-7 overall) with games against Eastern (4/24) and Misericordia (4/28)remaining.  Wilkes drops to 6-2 and is 0-2 against Freedom opponents.

The Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with tallies by Feffer, Kaitlin Barry '13 and team leading scorer Haylee Molloy '15 but the Colonels called a time-out and scripted two plays for Gabby Ford who one-timed both behind-the-cage passes past Knight's starter Deanna Thompson'13 allowing Arcadia just a one goal advantage (3-2).  Ford paced the visitors with 5 goals.

Wilkes would get no closer however, as the Knights owned them over the next 11 minutes, scoring 6 unanswered on the Colonels to take a commanding 9-2 lead.  The offensively inflated first half would feature 21 total goals and over the final thirteen minutes of the opening stanza the Knights would out-score Wilkes 6-4, taking a convincing 15-6 lead into the break.

And they never let their foot off the accelerator.  The Knights scored the first six tallies of the second half, before allowing Wilkes five unanswered of their own in an eventual 10-goal victory for AU.

The victory would go to Thompson, who evens her record at 3-3.  Thompson made 11 saves in 54 minutes before Sarah Baumgardner '13 saw 5 minutes and change of action, making 3 stops.  Wilkes starter Justine Thimmel took the loss finishing her 34 minutes in the cage with 4 saves and 16 goals against.

Mindy Hair '15 scored her first collegiate goal for Arcadia, scoring in the final 44 seconds of regulation.

The Knights return to action with a non-conference game at Rosemont College this Tuesday, April 17 at 4 p.m.
