Knights-Warriors Battle Comes Down to One Point Decision in Commonwealth Men's Tennis

GLENSIDE, PA (April 14, 2012) - After toughing out a 9-8 win at No. 3 Doubles, Arcadia University Men's Tennis came up one match short against visiting Lycoming College today, falling by a narrow 4-5 decision on the Weiss Tennis Courts in Commonwealth Conference action.

Mitchell Narazov '15 and David Battistelli '15 paired at No. 3 Doubles and pulled out the 9-8 win over Lycoming's Devin Rachael/Jack Port. The Knights nearly tacked on another doubles point as the No. 2 match was decided by just a two-point spread, unfortunately, with the Warriors' Frankie Casale/Chris Connolly winning 8-6 over Arcadia's Jeremy Garcia '15/Patrick Rohrbaugh 14.

Marc Ruggia '15 gave the Knights a boost in singles action playing the No. 2 position. After he dropped his first set 1-6 to Lycoming's Cody Heffner, Ruggia fought his way back to force a third set tie-breaker with a 7-5 win in the second set before sealing the victory with a 6-3 win in set three.

Rohrbaugh went on to defeat Connolly at No. 4 Singles, 6-1, 7-6 while Hermino Quinones '13 had no trouble dispatching Port at No. 6 Singles, 6-2, 6-1.  Max Amiel came up just short of forcing a third set tie-breaker at No. 5 Singles, falling 6-4, 7-6 to Rachael.

Arcadia drops back to 4-7 overall (1-2 CC) while Lycoming improves to 4-2 overall (2-0 CC).

The Knights have three remaining league matches on their schedule with Alvernia visiting Glenside on April 17, an away match at Messiah on April 21 and the season finale at home against Elizabethtown on April 28.  Arcadia also has one remaining non-league match to play on April 24 at home versus Eastern.
