GLENSIDE, PA (April 24, 2012) - A battled ensued at No. 1 Singles on Tuesday against Arcadia's top-gun Chris Finney '12 and Eastern University's top-ace Tyler Hoagland. It would go three sets and decide the match with Hoagland the victor, giving the match victory to the visiting Eagles by a 5-4 decision on the Weiss Tennis Courts in non-league play.
Over their last three outings, the Knights have battled to within one point of their opponents, highlighted by 5-4 win over Alvernia University in Commonwealth action on April 17.
After Finney fell behind in the set, he rebounded to hand Hoagland a 4-6 loss in the second, forcing a tie-breaking third set. Finney finally bowed to the Eagles after a hard-fought two point loss (6-4). Finney got support from his teammates throughout the remaining singles matches, including a win at No. 2 with Marc Ruggia '14 defeating Eastern's Tyler Schultz 6-2, 6-3. At No. 4, Pat Rohrbaugh '14 outlasted Herschel Dube in a marathon third set tie-breaker, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 with Herminio Quinones '13 rounding out the Knight's singles' win, topping Codie Todd 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot. Jeremy Garcia '15 also engaged in a marathon match with Eastern's No. 3 Jonny Shenk, falling 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
Arcadia was able to enter singles play having earned one point out of doubles action with a win at the No. 3 spot. Mitchell Narazov '15 and David Battistelli '15 teamed up to easily defeat Herschel Dube/Codie Todd of Eastern 8-2.
The Knights (5-9, 2-3 CC) close their 2012 season this Saturday at home, hosting the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College in a men's & women's doubleheader beginning at 12 Noon.
