Women's Basketball Falls to #7 Messiah

Box Score Glenside, Pa (January 12, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (8-7, 1-7 MCOM) dropped an 84-46 decision to the #7 Messiah College Falcons this afternoon. Messiah used a pair of 10-0 runs in the first half to open up a 19 point and led by as many as 44 in the second half. Dominque Hassinger scored 10 points to lead the Knights.

The Knights and Falcons traded baskets to start the game and Arcadia had a 7-6 lead at the 18:06 mark. Messiah then used a 10-0 run to take a 16-7 with 12:18 to play. Arcadia got to within six at 21-15 with under nine minutes to play, but the Falcons then used an 18-3 run to take a 39-18 lead with less than 30-seconds to play in the half. The Knights scored the final basket of the half as time expired to make the score 39-20 heading into the break.

Hassinger led Arcadia with six points. Dori Gyori scored 16 first half points for Messiah. The Falcons outshot the Knights 47% to 31%, but Arcadia held a 19-18 rebounding edge. The Kngihts turned the ball over 17 times and Messiah scored 14 points off of the turnovers. The Falcons had six miscues in the first half.

Messiah used a 16-4 run to open up the second half and took a 55-24 lead at the 14:00 mark. The Falcons would lead by as many 44 in the second half and the Knights could only get as close as 23 early in the frame.

Hassinger was 4-10 from the field. Gyori scored 24 points and grabbed 10 boards for Messiah. The Falcons shot 54% from the field and held the Knights to 25%. Messiah out rebounded Arcadia 40-35 and forced 23 turnovers, while committing 13.

Arcadia will hit the road on Wednesday night as they travel to face Alvernia for a 6pm tip.
