Morgan Wensley poured in a game-high and career-high 30 points as the Knights held off the Penn State-Brandywine Nittany Lions (5-5), 80-74. The Knights led by as many as 12 in the second half, but the Nittany Lions got to within two in the final three minutes. Arcadia scored the final four points to seal their third straight victory.
Arcadia jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Penn State scored 11 straight points to lead by seven with 15:11 to play. The Knights trailed 13-8 and the scored five straight to tie the score at the 11:57 mark. The score was then tied at 18, but a 13-3 run by the Knights opened up a 31-21 advantage with 6:40 to play. Arcadia led 34-27 and went on a 9-1 run to take a 43-28 lead late in the half. The Knights went into the break with a 43-33 lead.
Wensley scored 18 points in the first half. Lauren Munro scored 10 for the Nittany Lions. Both teams shot over 42% from the field and each grabbed 20 rebonds. Arcadia forced 14 turnovers, while committing 11. The Knights scored 22 points off of turnovers in the opening frame.
Arcadia maintained their cushion and led by as many as 12 points several times and led by 11, 72-61 with 7:24 to play. Brandywine then used a 13-4 run to draw to within two points at 76-74 at the 2:54 mark. The Knights would not let the Nittany Lions score again, while
Valerie DiMuro hit a put back and Sam Caligiuri and
Maureen Fiocca each went 1-2 from the line to ice the six point victory.
Wensley was 11-16 from the field, including 6-8 from behind the arc. She also had six boards and three steals. DiMuro recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, while
Victoria Mazzeo grabbed 10 rebounds. Munro finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Brandywine. Both teams finished the contest shooting over 42% from the field, but Arcadia had a big advantage on the boards, 50-36. The Knights committed 23 turnovers, while forcing 20.
Arcadia gets back into MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday afternoon as they host Hood for a 1pm tip-off in Glenside.
