Box Score Reading, PA (January 23, 2012) - A three-pointer by Dominque Hassinger fell short as time expired and the Arcadia University Knights' (9-9, 2-9, MCOM) comeback attempt was thwarted in a 54-51 loss at the Albright College Lions (8-10, 4-7 MCOM). The Knights trailed by six late and got to within one point in final minute, but could not complete the comeback. Sam Caligiuri led Arcadia with 14 points.
The Knights jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and led by four at the 15:19 mark. Albright then used a 15-2 run to take a 17-8 lead with 6:30 to play in the opening half. Arcadia responded with a 9-2 run to get back to within two at 19-17 at the 3:19 mark. The teams traded baskets down the stretch and Albright went into the break with a 25-23 lead.
Caligiuri led the Knights with eight points, while Kelecia Harris led all scorers with 10 points for Albright. The Lions shot 40% from the field, while Arcadia shot 34%. The Lions controlled the boards 24-14 but committed 11 turnovers, while causing six.
The teams continued to trade baskets to begin the second half. Albright led 37-35, but then scored five straight to take a 42-35 lead at the 11:04 mark. The Knights then trailed 43-37, but the used a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 43-42. Albright then led 45-44 and scored the next five points to go back up by six at 50-44 at the 3:30 mark.
The Knights got back to within one point again at 52-51 in the final minute. Albright had the ball with a chance to extend their lead. The Knights got the defensive stop, but could not convert on the offensive end. Albright made a pair of free throws on their next possession to go up 54-51 with just under six seconds to play. Hassinger's three-pointer as the buzzer sounded fell short and the Knights suffered the three-point loss.
Caligiuri was 6-14 from the field. Hassinger added 10 points and eight assists. Harris scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Albright. Arcadia shot 40% from the field, while Albright shot 38%. Albright won the board battle 43-36 and forced 18 Knight turnover and committed 15.
Arcadia will remain on the road on Saturday as they travel to face Hood College for a 1pm tip-off.
