Hood Uses Second Half Comeback to Defeat Women's Basketball

Box Score Frederick, MD (January 26, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (9-10, 2-2 MCOM) let an 11-point second half lead get away in a 59-53 loss to the Hood College Blazers (5-14, 3-9). Arcadia led 44-33 with less than eight minutes to play, but a 23-5 run by Hood gave the Blazers a seven-point lead that they would not relinquish. Valerie DiMuro led the Knights with a 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Arcadia fell behind 13-7 at the 13:10 mark, but an 9-2 run by the Knights gave them a 16-15 lead with 9:16 to play in the first half. The team traded the lead and there were two ties in the final nine minutes of the half. The last tie was at the half, with the score 24-24.

Sam Caligiuri scored nine points to lead Arcadia. Rachel Wiley and Dyanna Prater each scored six to lead the Blazers. Neither shot well from the field in the first half as Arcadia shot 25.9%, while Hood shot 23.1%. The Knights won the board battle 29-23, they committed 12 turnovers and forced just five.

The game was tied at 26 early in the half, but the Knights then used a 14-5 run to take a 40-31 lead at the 11:39 mark. Arcadia extended their lead to 11-points at 44-33 at the 7:54 mark. The game then turned as Hood went on a 23-5 run to take a 56-49 lead with under 30-seconds to play. Hood won by the six-point margin.

DiMuro was 11-15 from the field. Caligiuri added 12 points for Arcadia, while Hassinger grabbed 10 rebounds. Kessler scored 12 points to lead Hood. The Knights shot 32% from the field and held Hood to just 25%. Arcadia controlled the glass, 54-49, but committed 23 turnovers and forced just nine.

The Knights return home on Wednesday when they host Elizabethtown at 6pm in Alumni Gym.
