Box Score Glenside, PA (January 5, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (8-5, 1-5 MCOM) used an 11-0 second half to open up an 18-point lead and never looked back in a 69-50 win over the Hood College Blazers (4-7, 2-3 MCOM). Today was the fourth straight win for the Knights and their first in conference play.
Samantha Caligiuri scored 19 points to lead a trio of double figure scorers for Arcadia.
The game was tied 2-2 early, but an 18-5 Arcadia run gave the Knights a 20-7 lead at the 10:07 mark. The Knights expanded the lead to as many as 17 points twice in the first half (33-16 and 35-18). Hood scored the final five points of the half, including a pair of free throws with no time on the clock to send the game into halftime with a 35-23 Aracadia lead.
Caligiuri had 10 points to lead all scorers in the first half. Briana Lee scored seven points to lead Hood. Arcadia shot 38.9% in the opening stanza, while Hood shot 33.3%. Arcadia led the rebounding battle 27-20 and committed just six turnovers, while forcing 12.
Hood started the second half on a 9-3 run to cut the Arcadia lead to six at 38-32 with 17:10 to play. The Knights then led 44-37, but scored the next 11 points to take a 55-37 lead a the 8:12 mark. The Blazers did not get closer than 15 the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 21 points before falling to Arcadia by the 19-point margin.
Caligiuri was 7-19 from the field and 5-8 from the stripe.
Morgan Wensley added 13 points, while
Dominique Hassinger scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Lee had 14 points to lead the Blazers. Arcadia ended the game shooting 37.5% from the field and held Hood to 28.1%. The Knights out rebounded the Blazers 52-43 and forced 19 turnovers, while committing 12.
Arcadia will hit the road on Wednesday as they travel to face Elizabethtown. Tip-off slated for 6pm.
