Men’s Soccer Team Earns 1-1 Draw at Widener

Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team came from behind to earned a 1-1 tie at Widener University Saturday night in a MAC Commonwealth match.
 
The Knights are now 6-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play, putting them in a five-way tie for third in the conference standings. The Pride are now 5-6-4 overall and 0-2-3 in conference play.
 
Freshman back Max Reid (Munich, Germany) gave Widener a 1-0 lead in the 30th-minute when he converted on a give-and-go with sophomore midfielder Zac Furia (Morton, Pa.) for his sixth goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Pride until the 60th-minute when junior back Joseph Bertucci (Giblosboro, N.J.) dove and headed the ball in off Alex Wells' (Hockessia, Del.) free kick from 40 yards out to tie the match at 1-1.
 
Widener started the match strong and outshot Arcadia 11-5 in the first half, but the Knights controlled play the rest of the way. Arcadia outshot the Pride 8-4 in the second half and 6-2 in overtime. Corner kicks favored the Knights 7-4.
 
Senior keeper Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, Pa.) recorded just one save as his record went o 6-6-2 for the season. Just two of Widener's 17 shots were on goal. Senior keeper Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) had six saves for the Pride as his record moved to 5-6-4.
 
The Knights will next travel to Alvernia University Tuesday for a 4 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
