Despite Season Ending Loss to Widener, Women's Basketball Has A Bright Future

Box Score Chester, PA (February 16, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (10-15, 3-15 MCOM) had their 2012-13 season come to an end this afternoon in an 83-48 loss to the Widener University Pride (21-4, 16-2. Although the season came to an end today, the Knights have much to be proud of as they won seven more games then last season, three more in the conference, went undefeated in non-conference play and had two different four game winnings streaks. The first of those streaks was to start the season.

Arcadia stayed in the contest early on, trailing 5-3, but a 5-0 run by Widener gave the Pride a 10-3 lead. The Knights got to within three at 10-7, but a 10-1 spurt by the Pride gave them a 20-8 lead at the 12:38 mark. Arcadia then scored seven straight to get back to within five at 20-15. The Pride then used an 18-3 run to take a 38-18 lead with 6:31 to play in the first half. Widener led by as many as 23 in the first half, which was the halftime margin, 46-23.

Sam Caligiuri and Morgan Wensley each scored six points to lead the Knights. Kate Dellinger scored 17 points to lead the Pride. Widener shot over 43% from the field, while Arcadia shot 39%. The Pride held a 26-20 rebounding advantage and Arcadia turned the ball over 14 times and forced eight.

Arcadia scored the first three points of the second half, but Widener responded with six straight to open up a 52-26 lead early in the half. The Pride held the large advantage for most of the second half and won by the 35-point margin.

Dominque Hassinger led the Knights with 12 points. Addy Crenny added 11 points. Dellinger had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pride. Widener shot over 43% from the field and held the nights to 29%. The Pride controlled the boards 54-35 and forced 25 turnovers.

Arcadia has a strong core of young players returning to the squad next season as their top three scorers (Caligiuri, Hassinger and Wensley) are freshman. Their leading rebounder, Valerie DiMuro is also a freshman. The Knights will not lose one player to graduation after this season and their starting lineup will remain intact.
