Box Score Glenside, PA (February 20, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (0-1) dropped the first match in program history tonight, 8-2 to the Stockton College Ospreys (1-0). The score definitely did not reflect the effort of the the Knights, who played well for 60 minutes. The Knights trailed 4-2 at the half, but Stockton scored all four second half goals to earn the victory.
Chris Jacovino scored the first goal in program history after a scrum in front of the net with 13:59 to play in the second quarter.
Cory Sonderschafer made 16 saves for the Knights.
After an emotional pre game ceremony that included a stirring speech by President Oxholm, the Knights took the field for the first time as an NCAA program. Stockton got on the board first at the 13:19 mark and added a second just 16 seconds later. The first quarter ended with a 2-0 Ospreys lead.
Then 1:01 into the second quarter, Jacovino pushed the ball into the net after a scrum in front to make the score 2-1. Stockton made it 3-1 at the 6:39 mark, but
John Phillips then scored for Arcadia off an assist from Jacovino, making the score 3-2. The Ospreys scored the final goal of the half and went into the break with a 4-2 lead.
Only Stockton could store in the second half, with three tallies in the third quarter and one in the fourth to earn the 8-2 win.
Stockton outshot Arcadia 39-17 and the Ospreys had 47 ground balls to 34 for the Knights.
Arcadia will play their first ever road game on Saturday when they travel to face Immaculata.
