Men's Basketball Loses Overtime Heartbreaker to Lycoming

Box Score Glenside, PA (February 9, 2013) - A 5-0 run in overtime gave the Lycoming College Warriors (15-8, 9-7 MCOM) a four-point lead that they would never relinquish in a 82-76 win over the Arcadia University Knights (13-10, 8-8). The Knights took the lead late in regulation on a pair of threes by John Landro, but the Warriors tied it right before the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Aaron Lee-Webb scored 20 points to lead Arcadia.

Arcadia led the game 3-2 early on, but a 14-5 run by Lycoming gave them a 17-7 lead at the 13:19 mark. The Knights then went on an 8-0 run to draw to within two at 17-15, but the Warriors held the lead. Lycoming led 23-19, but an 11-2 run by Arcadia gave them the lead, 30-25 at the 5:41 mark. The Warriors got within one at 32-31, but the Knights went on an 8-2 run to take a 40-33 lead with 92-seconds on the clock and went into the break with a 40-36 lead.

Joe Brown led the Knights with 12 first half points. William Wingate had seven to lead Lycoming. The Knights and the Warriors both shot over 45% from the field. Arcadia had a slight rebounding advantage, 21-18 but committed seven turnovers and forced just three.

Lycoming quickly tied the game 40 and eventually took the lead at 45-44 at the 14:24 mark. Arcadia took the lead back and had a 50-47 advantage, but four straight by the Warriors gave them a 51-50 lead at 12:22. The game went back and forth for the next five minutes and Arcadia again took the lead back and led 61-57. Lycoming then used a 9-1 run to take a 66-62 lead with 2:44 left to play.

Lycoming then led 68-64, but John Landro hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give Arcadia a 70-68 lead with 55-seconds left. The Warriors made a pair of free throws with 31.5 on the clock to tie the game. Arcadia turned the ball over on their next possession and Lycoming couldn't score on their last possession sending the game to overtime.

The Knights took a 71-70 lead to start the overtime, but the Warriors then scored five straight to take a 75-71 lead with 2:41 to play. The Knights could not closer than three points for the remainder of the extra session and fell by six-points for their third straight defeat.

Lee-Webb was 6-13 from the field with seven rebounds and seven assists. Joe Brown and Khalief Trawick each scored 14 points, while Colin McCarthy and Landro each scored 10 points. Anthony Martin scored 20 points to lead Lycoming. The Warriors shot 49% from the field and Arcadia shot 42%. The Knights out rebounded the Warriors 46-41, but committed 19 turnovers.

Arcadia will hit the road for the last two games of the season, starting on Tuesday at Lebanon Valley for an 8pm tip-off.
