Box Score Glenside, PA (March 29, 2013) - A two-run top of the 13th by the Hood College Blazers (12-5, 3-2 MCOM) gave them an 11-10 win over the Arcadia University Knights (5-10, 2-3) in MAC Commonwealth action. Hood tied the game at seven in the seventh, then took leads in the 11th and 12th, but Arcadia tied the game in the bottom of both those innings. The Knights got one back in the 13th, but could not score the tying run.
Hood jumped on the board in the top of the first with a single run. They added two more in the second for a 3-0 lead. Arcadia then scored six in the bottom of the third.
Ashley John scored on an error by the right fielder.
Alexandra Schafer then hit an RBI single and
Brandee Zablotsky hit a sac fly to make the score 3-3.
Jessica Wood then helped herself with a two run single and
Corrin Showalter walked to knock in the sixth run.
Hood scored a run in the fourth to make the score 6-4. The Blazers then tied the game with two in the fifth. Arcadia went right back in front, 7-6, in the bottom of the fifth as
Marissa Perez hit an RBI single. Hood then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and the contest headed for extra innings.
The eighth, ninth and 10th innings when scoreless, but in the top of the 11th, Hood took an 8-7 lead. The Knights tied the game in the bottom of the 11th as Wood hit an RBI double with two outs and the game went to the 12th. The Blazers scored a run in the top of the inning to take a 9-8 lead. Arcadia again tied the game on an RBI groundout by
Natalie O'Reilly.
Hood then scored twice in the top of the 13th to take an 11-9 lead. Arcadia scored a run in the 13th on an RBI single by Wood, but could not push the tying run across.
Hood's pitcher, Keerstie Robinson got the win, pitching all 13 innings and throwing over 200 pitches.
Sarah Gunia took the loss for the Knights. Wood was 5-6 with a run scored and four RBI. Schafer and Perez each scored twice.
The second game of the doubleheader was not played due to darkness. Arcadia returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Albright for a MAC Commonwealth double header.
