Volleyball Wins Season Opener Over PSU-Abington 3-1

Glenside, PA (August 30, 2013) – The Arcadia University Volleyball team started the season off right by defeating Penn State Abington 3-1 tonight in non-conference action in Abington.

The Knights started the first two sets on fire defeating the Nittany Lions 25-18, 25-19, the Nittany Lions ralled back to win the third set 26-24 but the Knights answered in the fourth set with a 25-16 victory giving the Knights their first win on the season.  Freshmen Makenna Micklus (Macungie, Pa.) and Junior Natalie Cadmus (Menifee, Calif) earned ten and 11 kills respectively to pace the Knights.
 
In the third set, Arcadia led 9-2 before PSU's freshman Sam Nelson (Doylestown, Pa.) four services brought errors from the Arcadia's offense. Cadmus halt the streak with a kill for the Knights, however Millan immediately picked up where Nelson left off with four additional points to put the Nittany Lions ahead 11-10. The battle continued back and forth until the score was tied at 24 apiece, until Abington, needing just two more points, forced two Arcadia errors to put the Nittany Lions ahead for their first set win.
 
The fourth set began with the Nittany Lions starting off the block with a 5-0 lead. However, the determined Knights would not back down as they stormed back on an 8-3 run to tie the game at eight.  The Knights capitalized on several Nittany Lion errors to take the 3-1 match victory.

Cadmus, Micklus, and senior Veronika Bailey (Plato, MO) collected 16, 11, and 13 digs respectively for Arcadia.
 
There will be no rest for the Knights as they return tomorrow to play Cairn University at home at 1 PM inside the Kuch Center.
