GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's tennis team closed out the 2014 season with a 5-4 Freedom Conference loss to visiting Misericordia University Saturday at Weiss Courts. The Cougars improved to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Knights fell to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
 
Junior Viola Sawyer (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and freshman Justine Sawyer (Glen Cove, N.Y.) accounted for Arcadia's only doubles win, posting an 8-6 decision over freshmen Bridget Boyle (Dallas, Pa.) and Megan Myers (Lancaster, Pa.) at No. 2. Viola Sawyer went on to beat Myers in three sets at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Justine Sawyer later fell to freshman Kiana Gough (Montgomery, Pa.) at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0.
 
Senior Danielle Riggins (Dorchester, N.J.) recorded a 7-5, 6-1 win over freshman Nellie Chmil (Hanover Township, Pa.) at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Alexandria Broome (South Euclid, Ohio) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Boyle at No. 4 singles. Broome and Riggins were edged out at No. 3 doubles 8-6 against Gough and freshman Carly Young (Sturges, Pa.).
 
Jasmine Peake (Coatesville, Pa.) and Riggins were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match. Arcadia also retiring head coach Lak Sphabmixay for his 10 years of service to the men's and women's tennis programs.
