Fast Start Propels Cabrini Past Arcadia Women’s Lacrosse Team, 13-4

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Visiting Cabrini College opened the game with an eight-goal run and never looked back on its way to a 13-4 win over host Arcadia University in the First Round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Wednesday night at Easton Field.

The Cavaliers improved to 14-5 for the season and advance to face sixth-ranked Gettysburg College Saturday at 1 p.m. The Knights ended the season with a record of 18-2, marking the program record for wins in a season.

Senior Sarah Means (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored just 30 seconds into the game to start the eight-goal surge for Cabrini, and later capped the run with her second goal of the game with 4:59 remaining in the second half. Junior Lacie Doubet (Swarthmore, Pa.) and freshman Allie Vallen (Maple Shade, N.J.) also had a pair of goals during that run.

Sophomore Dawn Faranetta (Randolph, N.J.) finally got Arcadia on the board with 3:47 left in the opening frame, and junior Haylee Molloy (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored with 1:55 on the clock to cut the Knights' deficit to 8-2 at the half.

Freshman Sasha Wozniak (Royersford, Pa.) opened the second half scoring to put the Cavaliers up 9-2 four and a half minutes into the second half before freshman Erin Misner (Westhampton, N.J.) and senior Sara Volk-Perez (Mays Landing, N.J.) struck twice in a span of just 10 seconds to pull Arcadia back within five, 9-4.

The Knights were unable to sustain that momentum and the Cavaliers closed the game with a five-goal run for the 13-4 final.

Doubet finished with a game-high four goals for Cabrini, while Means finished with two goals and two assists for a four-point game. Wozniak finished with three goals in the contest.
