GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 Freedom Conference match to visiting FDU-Florham Thursday at Weiss Courts, dropping its record to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Devils improved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win.
Arcadia trailed 2-1 following doubles play, with seniors
Kaila Gaughan and
Viola Sawyer defeating freshmen Nu-Kermeni Kermah and Amelia Vetto 8-4 at No. 1. The other doubles scores were close as sophomore
Allyson Naiken and freshman
Kayla Haberbosch fell 8-6 ti junior Jill Duke and freshman Serina Grande at No. 2, while sophomore
Jennifer Khawam and freshman
Sarah Hanley fell 8-5 to senior Kim Martin and sophomore Remy Astorino at No. 3.
Naiken recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Vetto at No. 2 singles, while Gaughan was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Duke at No. 3 singles. Both first and sixth singles were decided in three sets; had both gone the other way Arcadia would have been able to rally for the win.
The Knights will look to bounce back next Thursday when they host a Freedom Conference match against Delaware Valley University.
