Box Score 2 UTICA, N.Y. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball split a pair of five-set matches Saturday to wrap up the SUNY Polytechnic Invitational. The Knights opened the day by defeating St. Joseph's (LI) 3-2, before falling to Elmira 3-2 to closeout the afternoon.
FOR THE RECORD: Following today's action, the Knights sit at 8-10 on the season. The Eagles of St. Joe's (LI) fell to 6-8 with the loss the Knights along with a setback to Wilkes. The Soaring Eagles of Elmira now sit at 6-15, after splitting the day and falling to Rivier.
Arcadia 3, St. Joe's (LI) 2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-16, 19-25, 21-19)
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshmen Jason Manely and
Austin Braas led the Arcadia attack with 18 and 12 kills, respectively; classmate
Bryce Galloway followed with nine kills. Senior Sean Cohn played a vital role in the offense's success, recording a match-high 48 assists. Defensively, freshman
Zayne George registered 14 digs, followed by Cohen with nine and Manley with seven.
ST. JOE'S (LI) LEADERS: Will Flohr registered 14 kills to lead the Eagles, followed by Paul Curaro with 14 and Matthew Amberge with 10. Tyler Jones contributed a team-leading 45 assists. Defensively, Michael Barfield recorded 24 digs to lead all players, while Flohr posted 16 and Curaro 11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights outscored the Eagles 64-63 in the match with 53 kills, six aces and five blocks while hitting 50.8%. The Eagles recorded 54 kills, three aces, and six blocks while hitting 40.8%.
Elmira 3, Arcadia 2 (22-25, 25-22, 29-27, 22-25, 15-8)
ARCADIA LEADERS: Braas led the Arcadia attack with 14 kills, followed by Manley with 10 and freshman Robbie Moctezuma with nine. Cohen posted a team-best 40 assists, while Manley notched a team-high 10 digs.
ELMIRA LEADERS: Ryan McDonough led all players with 18 kills. Mark Kawecki followed with 12 and Dan Symer with 11. Jeremy Best registered a game-high 44 assists, with Ryan Branigan posting a game-best 21 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Soaring Eagles outscored the Knights 75-64 with 55 kills, eight aces and 12 blocks while hitting 20.6%. The Knights recorded 49 kills, five aces and 10 blocks while hitting 56.0%.
