ALTOONA, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team opened the 2017 season in winning fashion Friday night, scoring five goals over the game's final 38 minutes to take down Penn State Altoona 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first half, the hosts opened the scoring in the 47
th minute on a Seth Murrelle goal. Junior
Manny Camacho put the Knights on the board for the first time this season in the 52
nd when he chipped a shot past the keeper from inside the box. Just over two minutes later, junior
Ryan Hammer netted the go-ahead goal from 15 yards out off a feed from senior
Bradley McKim. Junior
Sam Hernandez added his first tally of the year in the 61
st minute, followed by sophomore
Shade Foreman's first of the year in the 64
th minute. Two career-firsts happened in the 88
th minute, when freshman
Colin Lankau met twine for the first time off classmate
Justin McKenna's first career assist.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Five different players found the back of the net, while McKim, McKenna and senior Geroges Fiori each dished out an assist.
PENN STATE ALTOONA LEADERS: Murrelle had the lone goal for the host Lions, while Jordan Crist added an assist.
IN GOAL: Senior
Chris Watson (1-0) made six saves in the win for Arcadia. Tanner Yaw (0-1) allowed five goals, while making eight saves in the loss for the Lions.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Scarlet and Grey held a 21-10 advantage in total shots, including 13-7 in shots on goal. To go along with the large shot margin, the Knights took 11 corner kicks in the contest compared to just one for the Lions.
