Men’s Soccer Bests Susquehanna in Non-Conference Action

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team downed visiting Susquehanna 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The win moved the Knights to 4-1-1 on the season, while the River Hawks fell to 1-4-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Four different players put shots on target for Arcadia in the opening 45 minutes. Senior Bradley McKim tested the River Hawks' keeper for the first time in the 9th minute with a fresh Sam Hernandez firing a shot on target in the 14th minute. Freshman Harun Abdullahi nearly got the Knights on the board in the 32nd minute when he took a free kick from outside of the box on the left side of the field and rang it off the right post. With just under five minutes to go in the half, sophomore Brandon Pryor slotted junior Ryan Keeter inside the box, which the latter finished to give the Knights a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
 
The Scarlet and Grey opened the second stanza with three corners in the first five minutes, before junior Ryan Hammer was fouled inside the box for a penalty kick in the 51st minute. The Manalapn, N.J. native converted his shot to give Arcadia a 2-0 advantage. The River Hawks responded with their lone marker in the 54th minute. Senior goalkeeper Chris Watson made three saves in the second half, including one on a header with 35 seconds remaining to seal the win.
 
IN GOAL: Watson totaled five saves in the win to move to 4-1-1 on the year. Susquehanna's Matt Ellingsworth made four saves and allowed two goals as he fell to 1-4-1.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia edged Susquehanna in shots (15-12), shots on goal (7-6) and corner kicks (9-7), while the visitors were whistled for 13 fouls to the Knights' 10.
