PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Arcadia women's volleyball team defeated Carnegie Mellon, 3-1 on Friday evening.
The Knights downed the Tartans, 25-21, 13-25, 25-18, 25-20, to improve to 19-8 on the season. Carnegie Mellon falls to 17-8 with the loss.
The first set was back-and-forth until the midway point. Tied 14-14, Arcadia scored three straight points, capped off by an
Emily Eng service ace, giving the Knights the 17-14 lead. The Tartans later evened the score at 21-21. The Knights scored the final four points of the set, a run that was started with a kill by
Lauren Enfield, giving Arcadia a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, Arcadia was unable to keep pace with Carnegie Mellon, who got off to a fast start. The Tartans led by as many as 12 points in the set, taking set two and tying the score at 1-1.
In set three, with the Knights holding a 12-11 lead, Arcadia gave itself some breathing room, scoring seven of the next eight points, which included two kills from
Becca Campf, giving the Knights a 19-12 lead. Arcadia was able to hold off the Tartans, taking set three and a 2-1 advantage in the match.
In set four, Carnegie Mellon took the lead when a Kill by Erika Foose made the score 16-15 in favor of the Tartans. After the Tartans took a 20-19 lead late in the frame, the Knights scored the final six points, to win the match 3-1.
Maddie Sehrt paced the Knights with 12 kills and hit .400. Enfield also tallied double-digit kills with 11.
Shannon Ryan added nine, while Campf pitched in six kills respectively.
Julia Paliwodzinski racked up 34 assists, while
Emily Eng led the Knights defensively with 18 digs.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow for a pair matches. First vs. Saint Mary's College at 11 a.m. and against Alma at 1 p.m.
