Women's Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Arcadia's women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Haverford Invitational with a split of pair of matches on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights (3-1), opened with a hard-fought, five-set loss to Wheaton (Mass.), and then completed play in the tournament with a 3-1 win over the host Fords.

Wheaton 3, Arcadia 2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 13-15)
Lauren Enfield hit .359 and pace the squad with 17 kills while adding 11 digs for a double-double. Shannon Ryan added 13 kills and hit .379, while Julia Paliwodzinski directed the offense and racked up 45 assists. Emily Eng had a team-high 19 digs, and Paliwodzinski added 17.

With a 2-1 lead entering the fourth set, the Knights quickly fell behind 6-1 following a service ace from Cat MacGregor. The early deficit proved too much to overcome, despite a late rally from AU that saw the Knights trim a 24-18 deficit to 24-23, including three straight kills from Enfield, before Becca Houghton recorded a kill to seal with set 25-23.

In the decisive fifth set, Wheaton scored four straight points to go up 8-3. The Knights came back to take an 11-10 lead on a Wheaton attack error. With the match tied 13-13, successive kills by Claire Cansler sealed the win for Wheaton.

Arcadia 3, Haverford 1 (25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 25-17)
Enfield and Ryan led the offense once again, posting 14 and 13 kills, respectively, while Lizzie Joseph added nine. Paliwodzinski handed out 44 assists and had three service aces, while Eng totaled 21 digs. Maddie Sehrt and Ryan had six and five total blocks, respectively.

Tied at 17-17 in the first set, Arcadia reeled off five straight points for a 22-17 lead then held off a late Ford rally. After the Fords took a tight third set, 27-25, the Knights raced out to a 10-5 lead to begin the fourth set and Haverford never got closer than three points the rest of the way. Becca Campf closed out the match and sealed the win with a kill.

At the conclusion of play, both Enfield and Ryan were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Knights are back in action on Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m. against Lebanon Valley.
