GLENSIDE, Pa. – After upping its win total by five from 2021 to 2022, the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team looks to take another stop as the Knights open its 2023 season on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Jean Lenox West Field.
Head Coach Hannah Wzsalek, the reigning conference Coach of the Year, is looking to use that success from last season to propel the Knights forward in 2023.
"We're just really looking to build on what we did last year and set a little bit more aggressive goals for ourselves," Wszalek said.
The Knights were selected fourth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which is the program's highest selection since 2016.
Arcadia returns 14 players from a season ago, including three that were given postseason conference awards in
Emily Griffith who was named to the All-MAC Freedom First Team,
Maddie Ruger and
Ashley Starkey, who were both All-MAC Freedom second Team selections.
11 newcomers enter their first season with the Knights' women's lacrosse program, which includes six first years in
Cameron Curtiss,
Mairead O'Connell,
Emma Smalley,
Ella Hood,
Jordyn Chan and
Abby Fuchs. Sophomores
Campbell Torrey,
Kylie Meredith and
Karynne Henry also join the Knights for the 2023 season and juniors
Jessica Lopopolo and
Natalie Scardino round out the new faces for the Knights.
"I feel like we have a huge incoming class because we so many newcomers to the team," Wszalek said. "We have a few that were playing some different sports that are jumping on board, so it feels like a very large new group."
The Knights kick off their season on Saturday, Feb. 18 as they host Elizabethtown at Jean Lenox West Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Arcadia begins MAC Freedom play on Wednesday, March 29 as they host Wilkes.
