Men’s Golf Finishes Round One at George Cangero Invitational

WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Arcadia University men's golf 'A Team' competed in the opening round of the George Cangero Invitational, hosted by Farmingdale State University at Eisenhower Park's White Course on Saturday. The course played as a par-72, 6,932-yard layout. The Knights finished 12th out of 14 teams with a team score of 327 (+39).

Landen Benner led the way for the Knights, carding a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 17th overall. Benner fired a 2-under 34 on the front nine, recording birdies on the third, fifth and ninth holes. He added five pars on the front, with his only blemish coming on the eighth hole with a bogey. Benner shot a 42 on the back nine, adding four more pars to finish with a 76.

Nicky Antonelli finished second among the Knights with an 11-over 83, shooting a 41 on the front nine and a 42 on the back. Antonelli recorded four pars and a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole on the front nine. He added five more pars on the back nine en route to his 83 and currently sits tied for 53rd overall.

Tony Antonelli carded an 84 and sits tied for 60th overall. He shot a 40 on the front nine, recording five pars, including three straight on holes six through eight. Antonelli added a 44 on the back nine with two more pars and recorded his lone birdie of the round on the par-3 16th hole.

Jack McCarthy also finished with an 84 (+12) and is tied for 60th overall. McCarthy carded a 3-over 39 on the front nine, recording four consecutive pars before adding his lone birdie of the round on the ninth hole. He shot a 45 on the back nine, finishing with a par on the 17th hole.

Graham Raymond shot a 20-over 92 but did not contribute to the team score. Raymond carded a 45 on the front nine with three pars before shooting a 47 on the back nine, where he added another par.

N.C. Wesleyan leads the team standings at 11-over 299, holding a one-stroke advantage over host Farmingdale State.

The Knights return to Eisenhower Park tomorrow morning for the second and final round of the George Cangero Invitational.
