Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. (September 2, 2012) – Following a tough opening-day loss, the Arcadia University women's soccer team played a solid all-around game and tightened up defensively en route to a scoreless draw against the University of Scranton on Sunday as part of the final day of the Haverford College Tournament. Making another gusty spot-start in goal, freshman midfielder/defender
Ashley Vaitis made four saves while a swarming defense combined to keep a quality Royals side off the scoreboard for 110 minutes.
Arcadia's backline was stout all afternoon. Junior
Kelley Gallagher and sophomore
Alex Stoner helped anchor a defense that didn't allow any of Scranton's 18 shot attempts to find the back of the net. Offensively, the Knights generated a few quality scoring chances. Specifically, attackers
Melia Ochsner,
Fatima Elmedkhar and
Kim Canfield came close to scoring on a several occasions, but Scranton goalkeeper Kelsey McAnelly came up big for the Royals.
The Knights (0-1-1) will look to get healthy over the next few days and will return to action Thursday night when they face non-conference opponent Neumann University under the lights at Easton field for a 7 p.m. start. This game will be the first for the Knights on their new turf field and will include a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:45 p.m.
