Women's Soccer Rolls to 4-1 Victory Over Gwynedd-Mercy

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. - Junior forward Kim Canfield (Hillsborough, N.J.) scored her team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season to lead the Arcadia University women's soccer team to a 4-1 non-conference victory over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Tuesday night at Easton Field. The Knights improved to 3-0-2 with the win, while the Griffins fell to 0-4-1 with the loss.

Canfield opened the scoring just 4:39 into the match and then made it 2-0 in favor of Arcadia at 10:48 when she knocked in a rebound off a shot from senior midfielder Sara Volk-Perez (Mays Landing, N.J.) that hit hit the post. Freshman forward Lennon Kramer (Nazareth, Pa.) gave the Knights a 3-0 advantage in the 25th-minute after placing a shot from the top-left of the box just inside the far right post.

Junior forward Sara Nance (Lansdowne, Pa.) put Gwynedd-Mercy on the board three minutes later when she tapped a double-deflection ball inside the left post to breakup Arcadia's bid for a shutout. Freshman back Caitlin Duddy (Harleysville, Pa.) put the ball into the box and sophomore midfielder Maura Gifford's (North Wales, Pa.) attempt went right to Nance who finished the play.

The score remained 3-1 until the 72nd-minute when junior midfielder Nina Barbieri (Hillsborough, N.J.) put home a centering feed from Kramer for the 4-1 final.

The game was never in question as Arcadia dominated from the opening whistle, outshooting Gwynedd-Mercy 20-3 in the first half and 18-0 in the second. The Knights also were awarded all four corners in the game.

Senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) needed to make just two saves in the first half to earn the decision in net, improving her record to 2-0-2, while junior keeper Veronica Willig (Lancaster, Pa.) did not face a single shot in the second half. Sophomore keeper Jess Tadley (Cherry Hill, N.J.) registered 12 saves in taking the loss for the Griffins, dropping her record to 0-4-1.

Arcadia will return to action Saturday when it hosts Cabrini College at 1 p.m. at Easton Field. Saturday is Super Fan Day, where students who attend all four home games starting with men's tennis at 10 a.m. will receive a free t-shirt and be entered into a drawing for a X-Box Connect prize pack.
