Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Host DeSales University closed the game with a three-goal run to pull away for an 11-7 win over the Arcadia University men's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon in a Freedoms Conference contest.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-7 overall and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference with the win, while the Knigths fell to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Arcadia got out to an early 2-0 lead as sophomore
Chris Jacovino (Hauppauge, N.Y.) back-to-back goals in his return to the lineup to open the game. Senior Jacob Bernier (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) put DeSales on the board with 5;18 left in the first quarter, starting a five-goal run for the Bulldogs that was capped by back-to-back scores by classmate James Guerrier (Floral Park, N.Y.).
Sophomore
Robert Palumbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) snapped that streak with 1:19 left in the second quarter and freshman
John Caruso (Cinnaminson, N.J.) found the back of the net with just a second left on the clock to pull the Knights back within two at the half, 6-4.
The Bulldogs scored twice to open the second half scoring before Arcadia scored the next three goals to cut DeSales lead to 8-7 heading into the final period. Caruso capped the run with his second goal of the game, but that proved to be the final tally of the day for the Knights as the Bulldogs scored all three fourth quarter goals to secure the win.
Bernier scored three goals to lead DeSales, while Guerrier finished with two goals and two assists. Blevins and junior Bruce Peditto (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) also had two goals each. Sophomore Matt Wranken (Patchogue, N.Y.) totaled 13 saves to earn the win in net.
Caruso and Jacovino had two goals and one assist each for Arcadia, while freshman
Joe Stanton (Edgewater, Md.) added one goal and one assist. Freshman
Jordan Culichia (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made seven saves in net as his record fell to 4-6.
The Knights held a 32-31 edge in shots for the game, while DeSales had a 21-18 edge in ground balls and an 11-10 margin in faceoff wins. Arcadia scored on both of its extra-man opportunities, while the Bulldogs cashed in on their one man-advantage opportunity.
The Knights will look to get back in the win column Thursday when they travel to Misericordia University for a 4 p.m. Freedom Conference contest.
