Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team dominated visiting Alvernia University, posting a 14-2 victory in its first-ever Commonwealth Conference game Wednesday night at Easton Field. The Knights improved to 2-4 with the win, while the Crusaders fell to 3-6 with the loss.
Freshmen
Matt Mignogna and
Danny Riley scored three goals each to the lead Arcadia to the win. Riley also had a three assists and three ground balls in the game. Classmate
Ryan Donovan netted two goals with two helpers, while fellow freshmen
Ryan Green and
Sean McDonald each tallied two goals with one assist.
Freshman
A.J. Beck recorded six saves as he picked up the first victory of his collegiate career. He held Alvernia off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
Mignogna gave the Knights the lead for good 2:16 into the first quarter, and junior
Keith Napolitano netted what proved to be the game-winner 4:55 into the second period for his first goal of the season.
Arcadia led 5-0 at the half and was up 12-0 following Mignogna's third goal of the game 2:47 into the fourth quarter before sophomore Danny Flanagan finally put Alvernia on the board at the 5:04 mark of the frame. Classmate Benjamin Manning accounted for the Crusaders' second goal with 3:49 left in the contest.
The Knights outshot Alvernia 37-15 while winning 14 of 20 faceoffs and holding a 30-21 advantage on ground balls. Arcadia was 1 for 5 with the man advantage, while the Crusaders failed to score on their four extra-man opportunities.
The Knights will next host Lycoming College Saturday at 2 p.m. at Easton Field.
