GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's swimming team saw a pair of school records fall as it opened the 2016-17 season with a 132-71 Middle Atlantic Conference dual meet win over visiting Hood College Saturday at Lenox Pool. It was the first meet of the season for both programs.
Freshmen
Kayla Drago and
Megan Hupp both entered the Knights' record book in their collegiate debut. Drago turned in a time of 1:02.58 to become the program record-holder in the 100 butterfly, while Hupp touched the wall in 5:17.69 to set the program mark in the 500 freestyle.
RELAYS: The Knights took each of the top-three spots in the 200 medley relay, with the team of freshman
Eunice Ardamoy, sophomore
Samantha Carpenter, Drago and sophomore
Taylor Byers recording a winning time of 1:51.91 that was just 0.68 seconds off the program record. Arcadia's top 200 freestyle relay of Byers, Carpenter, Hupp and Drago turned in a time of 1:43.60 that was 0.49 off the program record.
BACKSTROKE: Junior
Rose Georgias took the top spot in the 100 with a winning time of 1:04.18, while Ardamoy was third in 1:04.77. Carpenter (2:16.91) and sophomore
Alyssa D'Esposito (2:22.70) took home the top two spots in the 200.
BUTTERFLY: Senior
Megan Obarowski and junior
Danielle Fundakowski recorded a one-two finish in the 200 with respective times of 2:22.42 and 2:29.73. Fundakowski's time of 1:07.32 was second only to Drago.
DISTANCE: D'Esposito was the victor in the 1,000 after touching the wall in 11:20.09, while classmate
Caroline Patterson was third in 11:51.34. Hupp, fellow freshman
Bekah Brown (5:41.00) and Patterson (5:52.00) had the top three times in the 500.
SPRINTS: Hupp touched the wall first in the 200 with a time of 2:00.28 as the Knights took the top-three spots in the event, which saw freshman
Rachel Samson (2:03.72) place second and senior
Anna Sweeney (2:08.44) took third. That feat was repeated in the 50 with Drago finishing first in 25.94, followed by freshman
Jackie McDowell (27.48) and senior
Lillie Curtis (27.52). Ardamoy was Arcadia's top-finisher in the 100, placing second in 57.62.
