WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's swimming team totaled 189 points during the first of three sessions at the 2016 Diamond City Invitational, placing the Knights first among the 12 scoring teams. Misericordia is in second with 155 points, while Division II East Stroudsburg sits in third with 142 points.
RELAYS: A new record was set in the first event of the day as sophomore
Samantha Carpenter, and freshmen
Megan Hupp,
Eunice Ardamoy and
Kayla Drago won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.60, besting the previous program record of 1:43.11 set at the 2015 MAC Championships. That same pairing placed second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:10.20, trailing only the team from Misericordia that won in 4:04.58.
DISTANCE: Hupp won the 500 in 5:18.89 immediately following the 200 free relay, and was one of four Knights to score in the event. Sophomore
Alyssa D'Esposito placed 11th in 5:36.02, followed by freshman
Bekah Brown in 14th (5:41.07) and junior
Danielle Fundakowski in 15th (5:41.82).
INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY: The Knights had a pair of scorers in the 200, led by freshman
Rachel Samson's fourth-place time of 2:19.81. Senior
Megan Obarowski placed eighth in 2:23.53.
SPRINT: The Knights had three finishers in the top-10 in the 50, led by Drago's second-place time of 25.65; she was second only to Misericordia's Morgan Hanadel (25.27). Carpenter placed fourth in 25.81, while Ardamoy placed eighth in 26:06.
UP NEXT: The second session of the Diamond City Invitational will begin later today, beginning with the 200 medley relay at 5 p.m.
