WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's swimming team remained undefeated in dual meets this season after recording victories over three-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference Champion Messiah College and host King's College Friday evening. The Knights defeated the Falcons 142-119 and the Monarchs 205-53. Messiah defeated King's 193-65.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 7-0 in dual meets this season, and defeated Messiah in a dual meet for the first time in program history. Messiah's record now stands at 7-3, while King's fell to 3-6.
BACKSTROKE: Sophomore
Samantha Carpenter posted a winning time of 2:13.65 in the 200, while junior
Rose Georgias (2:21.56) placed third and freshman
Eunice Ardamoy (2:22.08) placed fifth. Ardamoy took second in the 100 after touching the wall in 1:03.40, edging out Georgias' third-place time of 1:05.54; Messiah's Joelle Williamson won the event in 1:01.61.
BREASTSTROKE: Arcadia swimmers took each of the top-three spots in the 100, led by Carpenter's winning time of 1:08.76. Sophomore
Taylor Byers was second in 1:12.41, while freshman
Bailey Babarsky's time of 1:13.05 was good for third. Byers later placed second in the 200 with a time of 2:36.05, finishing second to King's Kirsten Siwy (2:33.52. Babarsky (2:40.43) and freshman
Rachel Samson (2:41.74) followed in third and fourth, respectively.
BUTTERFLY: Arcadia had three of the top-five finishers in the 100. Freshman
Kayla Drago (1:01.64) was second to Messiah's Cassie Cotton (1:00.54), while senior
Megan Obarowski (1:03.91) and junior
Danielle Fundakowski (1:06.28) placed third and fifth, respectively. Obarowski and Fundakowski additionally finished in the top-five of the 200, with Obarowski registering a third-place time of 2:20.74 and Fundakowski taking fourth in 2:25.16.
DISTANCE: The Knights dominated the 500, taking each of the top-four positions. Freshman
Megan Hupp led the way with a winning time of 5:19.79, followed by sophomore
Alyssa D'Esposito (5:32.92), freshman
Bekah Brown (5:37.81) and sophomore
Caroline Patterson (5:41.75). Hupp and D'Esposito also recorded a one-two finish in the 1,000 freestyle, with Hupp placing first in 10:59.59 and D'Esposito taking second in 11:13.57
INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY: Samson was the runner-up in the 200 after notching a time of 2:17.74 to lead three Knights that placed in the top-five; Obarowski placed fourth in 2:22.38, while Byers placed fifth in 2:23.82. Wingert won the event in 2:16.22 for her third win of the night.
SPRINTS: Three Knights finished in the top-five in the 50 freestyle; Carpenter placed second in 25.69, while Drago (25.86) and senior
Anna Sweeney (26.68) placed third and fourth, respectively. Hupp took second in the 100 freestyle in 55:47, followed by Sweeney in third with a time of 57.66. Samson was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.64, which was just over three seconds faster than Babarsky's third-place time of 2:04.93. Messiah's Katie Wingert won the 50 (24.90) and 200 (1:59:05), while teammate Tara Freeman won the 100 in 55:16.
RELAYS: The 200 medley relay of Ardamoy, Carpenter, Drago and Byers placed first overall to open the meet, registering a time of 1:51:59, while the team of Georgias, senior
Lillie Curtis, Obarowski and Sweeney placed fourth in 2:01.03. In the final event of the evening, the 200 freestyle relay of Hupp, Drago, Ardamoy and Samson took second with a time of 1:41.68.
NEXT UP: The Knights will return to action next Saturday, January 21, to host Widener University at 1 p.m.
