GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia Esports Hearthstone picked up a huge victory in Tespa Varsity play this week, taking down defending national champion and third-ranked Northeastern Tuesday night, 3-2. The victory was one of several matches for both Hearthstone squads in an action-packed week.
TESPA VARSITY INVITATIONAL
ARCADIA (A) 3, #3 NORTHEASTERN 2
Pregame: The Knights' team of
Aidan Stuhltrager,
Henry Ryder, and
Joel Anderson looked to come back from a week one loss to avoid to falling to 0-2 in the Tespa Varsity Division. The Tespa Varsity Division features 43 of the nation's top hearthstone programs. Standing in the Knights' way of climbing back to 1-1 was defending national champion and third-ranked Northeastern University.
Game 1: The Knights lineup choice looked to be strong up against Northeastern. The Knights'Â priest was able to secure a victory over the Demon Hunter of Northeastern. At one point in the match, the Knights were down to one remaining health point and were able to fight back and get the win.
Game 2: The Knights did not keep up the momentum in game two, as a blunder on their control warrior against the Bomb Warrior of Northeastern made them pay for their mistakes and evened up the series at one-all.
Game 3: The Knights were able to secure their footing in the series and fight back to a win in game three with their control warrior over the soul demon hunter of Northeastern.
Game 4: Northeastern proved why they are one of the top programs in the country in game four, securing a win with their tempo mage in a rather obscure fashion, mounting just enough pressure to put them over the edge and even the series, 2-2.
Game 5: The Knights found themselves in a Demon Hunter mirror match for game five -Â a very skill-intensive matchup that they maneuvered wonderfully to sneak out a win in the late game and secure the victory, 3-2.
ARCADIA (A) 1, #16 LEBANON VALLEY 3
Pregame: The Knights A Team of
Aidan Stuhltrager,
Henry Ryder, and
Joel Anderson took on #16 LVC in week one of the Tespa Varsity invitational.
Game 1: The Knights face hunter got the upset win over the Paladin Deck of LVC, giving them a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2: LVC fought back hard on their paladin and snuck out a win over the Knights' bomb warrior.
Game 3: Some miscues for the Knights led to dropping the game against the Combo Druid deck from LVC.
Game 4: LVC took a strong win in the Demon Hunter mirror and won the series, 3-1.
TESPA HEARTHSTONE OPEN
ARCADIA (A) 2, RIT (WHITE B) 3
Game 1: The Knights team of
Henry Ryder,
Aidan Stuhltrager, and
Joel Anderson looked to keep their Tespa playoff hopes alive against RIT. They fell in a tough match early as their control warrior lost to the weapon rogue of RIT.
Game 2: The Knights fought back on control warrior, earning a win over the libram paladin of RIT.
Game 3: RIT bounced back again in a dominant showing ,as their paladin overtook the face hunter of the Knights.
Game 4: The Knights brought the series to a game five with a win in the demon hunter mirror.
Game 5: The Knights fell in a close game five to drop the series, 3-2, and fall to 1-3 on the season, eliminating the Knights from Split 1 playoff contention.
ARCADIA (B) 0, PENN STATE 3
Game 1: The Knights team of
Mason Cole,
Corey Klevan, and
Xavier Dube looked to move to 3-1 against a powerhouse program of Penn State. The fell on their face hunter against the mage of Penn State.
Game 2: A vicious start on control warrior left the Knights with little to no options in game two as Penn State was able to secure the victory.
Game 3: The Knights fell in game three in the demon hunter mirror match and dropped the series, 3-0, while moving to 2-2 on the season to stay alive in the playoff race.
ARCADIA (A) 1, BUFFALO 3
Game 1: The Knights team of
Aidan Stuhltrager,
Henry Ryder, and
Joel Anderson looked to move to 2-1 in the Tespa open division against Buffalo. The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 series lead with their Face hunter deck.
Game 2: Buffalo came back in game two winning on the back of an insane turn four-play on their mage deck that left the Knights with no possible win conditions and tied the series at 1-1.
Games 3-4 : Buffalo had another stellar performance and dominated the Knights in the next two games. The Knights were left with little to no win conditions in the series and ended up losing, 3-1, after a pair of hard-fought matches
ARCADIA (B) 3, LEBANON VALLEY (B) 1
Game 1: A battle of program depth saw Arcadia B take on LVC B in a series that would see the winner move to 2-1 on the Tespa season. The Knights took a quick win on their face hunter to jump out to a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2: The Knights made a strong meta call brining a spell druid list that see's very little play in the Tespa series. This call paid off as they looked dominant in game two.Â
Game 3: The third game brought more of the same success for the Knights as they rolled over the face hunter deck of LVC with their stealth rogue list.
