GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's cross country team finished first overall and had four runners finish in the top-10 at the Griffin Open on Saturday morning.
Tate Dawson led the pack with a program-record mark of 19:26.70 to place first overall, while
Micah Gordley crossed the finish line second in her collegiate cross country debut.
Chloe Stravinsky and first-year standout
April Browne rounded out the Knights top-10 finishers with sixth and ninth place efforts, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dawson crossed the finish line at 19:26.7 for the first individual victory in the program's history. The graduate student finished two minutes ahead of the field and surpassed the women's previous record of 21:27.95 - which was set by
Veronica Pontis at the 2019 Bryn Mawr Invitational. Dawson also beat her previous collegiate cross country 5k record of 19:36, which was set as a member of Ohio University Bobcats at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational.
- After an impressive outdoor track season, Gordley picked up where she left off with a second place finish in her cross country debut. The sophomore finished with a time of 21:26.2, which would have been good enough to beat the program's previous 5k record.
- Stravinsky placed sixth with a time of 24:33.9, while Browne was ninth overall with a 24:47.4 effort. Stravinsky gained one position during the final stretch after making a pass moments before the finish line to claim sixth place.
-
Paige Masonheimer finished 15th overall with a time of 27:03.20, while
Marlie Ford and
Mackenzie Nocchi crossed the finish line at 30:55.10 and 31:05.70, respectively. All three runners were making their cross country debut for the Knights.
