MALVERN, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's golf team returned to action Sunday for the opening round of the Swarthmore Invitational, hosted by Swarthmore College at White Manor Country Club. The par-71 course plays at 6,699 yards. After day one, the Knights sit in 15th place out of 16 teams with a 333 (+49).
Hayden Williamson led Arcadia with a 78 (+7), placing him in a tie for 34th overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Williamson paced the Knights with a 78 (+7). He shot a 37 (+2) on the front nine, opening with a par before recording birdies on two of his next three holes. He added three more pars to close the front. On the back, Williamson carded a 41 (+5), highlighted by his third birdie of the day on the par-5 11th, along with three pars.
• Frankie Sass finished second for Arcadia with an 83 (+12), tying for 62nd place. He recorded a 40 (+5) on the front with five pars, then shot a 43 (+7) on the back, adding a birdie on the par-5 11th and a par on the 17th.
• Nicky Antonelli placed third for the Knights with an 85 (+14), tying for 73rd overall. He carded a 45 (+10) on the front, then improved with a 40 (+4) on the back, finishing strong with back-to-back birdies.
• Justin Madden rounded out the team scoring with an 87 (+16), placing 77th. He shot a 44 (+9) on the front with two pars, followed by a 43 (+7) on the back, highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 14th and two additional pars.
• Chad Jones posted a 94 (+23) to finish 82nd. His score did not contribute to the overall team total. He recorded a 47 (+12) on the front with a par on the third hole, and followed with a 47 (+11) on the back, adding three pars.
Franklin & Marshall leads the field after round one at +6, holding a two-stroke advantage over Dickinson and a seven-stroke lead over Tufts. Among MAC programs, York sits fifth at +21, Stevens is 10th at +30, and Albright is 14th at +36. Individually, David McNamara leads the field at 2-under par.
