Antonelli Leads Men's Golf to Fifth-Place Finish at Battle of Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – The Arcadia University men's golf team returned to action Monday afternoon, competing at the Battle of Basking Ridge, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology at Basking Ridge Country Club. The Knights placed fifth in the 12-team field with a score of 321 (+37). The course played as a par 71 at 6,906 yards.

Nicky Antonelli led Arcadia with a 4-over 75, finishing in a tie for fifth place overall.

Antonelli carded a 2-over 38 on the front nine and a 2-over 37 on the back. After opening with back-to-back bogeys, he settled in with a birdie and five pars to close the front. On the back nine, he added four pars and recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15.

Hayden Williamson finished second for the Knights with a 5-over 76, placing seventh overall. He posted a 1-over 37 on the front, highlighted by a birdie on the first hole and another on the ninth, along with four pars. On the back nine, Williamson shot a 4-over 39, recording seven pars, including six consecutive pars to start the side.

Frankie Sass and Tony Antonelli each carded an 85 (+14) to round out the team scoring, tying for 41st place. Sass shot a 7-over 43 on the front with five pars and matched that score on the back with a 42, adding four pars and a birdie on the 18th hole. Antonelli turned in a 2-over 38 on the front with seven pars, including five straight to close the side. He finished with a 12-over 47 on the back, recording three pars and two birdies.

Justin Madden also competed for the Knights, shooting an 88 (+17), though his score did not factor into the team total. He carded a 10-over 46 on the front with a birdie and two pars, then shot a 7-over 42 on the back, highlighted by six pars, including four straight to begin the side. Madden finished tied for 47th.

Stevens "A" captured the team title with a 12-over 296, followed by Scranton at 25-over 309 and Stevens "B" at 30-over. Kean placed fourth at 32-over, just ahead of Arcadia. Jack Harris of Stevens earned medalist honors with an even-par 71, finishing two strokes ahead of Scranton's Richard Essen.

UP NEXT

The Knights return to action later this week when they travel to Piney Branch Golf Club on Thursday for a tournament hosted by Stevenson.
