GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the additions of Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Dave Hughes and Athletic Trainers Nick Adams and Paul Diorio to the Sport Performance staff ahead of the 2021-22 academic year.
Dave Hughes, MS, CSCS
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Hughes arrives in Glenside following a stint at Fresno State University where he assisted with strength and conditioning efforts for the Bulldogs' football program under the direction of Coach Ron Mckeefery. Prior to then, Hughes served as a graduate assistant sports performance coach at Salisbury for two years where he designed and implemented strength and conditioning programming for the Seagulls' baseball, softball, and men's and women's swim teams while assisting with the men's and women's lacrosse and football programs.
Hughes also gained valuable experience as an intern with Duke University's Olympic Sports Performance division in the spring of 2020 after completing a year-long stay at Siena College as an assistant with the strength and conditioning team.
Hughes earned his bachelor of science in kinesiology from SUNY Cortland in 2015 before completing his master of science in applied health physiology from Salisbury in May of this year. He is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and also holds a USA Weightlifting Level I certification.
Nick Adams, M.Ed., LAT, ATC
Athletic Trainer
Adams joins the Arcadia Sport Performance staff after spending three years as an assistant athletic trainer at Suffolk University where he led athletic training efforts for the women's volleyball, men's ice hockey, and baseball programs. Prior to then, Adams spent over two years as an assistant athletic trainer with Temple University providing sport-specific rehabilitation and training for the Owls' cross country, track and field, fencing, and tennis teams.
He also spent time as the head athletic trainer at Unionville High School in 2016 and offered strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes to aid in injury prevention. In the year leading up to that, Adams was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the United States Army in Fort Benning where he was tasked with creating rehabilitation plans for Army basic trainees and aided in long-term rehabilitation plans of officers and recently deployed soldiers among other duties.
Adams earned his bachelor of science in athletic training from West Chester University in 2014 before continuing his education at Auburn University where he completed his master of education in exercise science in 2015. He also holds memberships with the National Athletic Training Association and Eastern Athletic Training Association.
Paul Diorio, MS, LAT, ATC
Athletic Trainer
Diorio comes to Glenside after spending the last year as the head athletic trainer at Kennett High School where he provided daily coverage for all of the school's athletic teams and implemented return-to-play progressions for student-athletes. Prior to then, Diorio served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at William Paterson University where he provided coverage for the baseball, field hockey, basketball, football, and soccer programs.
He also gained a wealth of experience as an undergraduate, completing clinical rotations with the Philadelphia Flyers, West Chester University, the Glen Mills School, and Bishop Shanahan High School.
Diorio earned his bachelor of science in athletic training from West Chester University in 2018 before going on to complete his master of science in exercise and sport studies from William Paterson in May 2020. He is also a member of the National Athletic Training Association.
