Matthew Chattin '21 Named Director of Esports

Glenside, Pa. — The Arcadia University Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Matthew Chattin '21 as the Director of Esports. Chattin will begin his responsibilities on June 2, 2025.

"I would like to thank the hiring committee for selecting me as the new Director of Esports," Chattin said. "I am excited to return to my alma mater and the program that got me my start. This program has been continuously growing since 2019, and I know that we have only just begun."

Chattin returns to Arcadia after spending the last two years as the Director of Esports at Waldorf University. While at Waldorf, Chattin was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Esports program, including recruiting, practice plans, competition scheduling, budget and fundraising management. Chattin coached Waldorf's Overwatch team to a Second Place finish in the NECC Challengers Division while qualifying for the NECC Nationals Challengers Division.

"We are excited to welcome Matt back to Glenside as our next Director of Esports," Associate Athletic Director Mike Hebenstreit said. "His passion and knowledge of the industry was apparent throughout the process, but he also showed that he understands the importance of the student-athlete experience. We look forward to Matt's Esports journey coming full circle as the next director, having started as a student-athlete when the program was an on campus start up, becoming a head coach after his graduation from Arcadia, and now leading the program and taking it to the next level."

Prior to his time at Waldorf, Chattin was a head coach for the Knights' Esports program from 2021 to 2023, where he assisted with recruiting, competition scheduling, and designed personalized coaching plans. While at Arcadia, Chattin led the Overwatch program to a First and Second Place finish in the NECC Challengers Division, and a Second Place finish in the NECC League of Legends Emergent Division.

Chattin graduated from Arcadia in 2021 with a degree in Psychology. Chattin was an original member of the Knights Esports program which began play in 2019, playing for both the Super Smash Bros Ultimate and League of Legends teams. Chattin served as a team captain during his senior season.
