Erin Livingston
Associate Athletic Director / Head Field Hockey Coach

What is your role and responsibilities at Arcadia?

My current position as an Associate Athletics Director, Head Field Hockey Coach, Title IX Deputy and Senior Woman Administrator passionately gives me the ability to assist in motivating and encouraging our student athletes in an environment where they are able to absorb and retain valuable life skills and experience. I have been at Arcadia for 11 years and chose to stay here because this school has a lot to offer and I honestly do believe that our department has experienced great growth since I've been here. My roles are amazing, but becoming a head coach has always been my dream job and thanks to Arcadia I have been able to fulfill this dream while also helping others with their goals.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Arcadia? What is the best memory you have working in our athletics staff?

I enjoy seeing the overall growth our student-athletes are able to take advantage of over four years. Arcadia allows our student-athletes to receive an individualized experience and students can choose what they want to get out of here while also playing the sport that they love. This university also has a smaller size, so our student-athletes have the opportunity to not only develop relationships with their coaches but also with their faculty.

My favorite memories I've had with our athletics staff was beating our rival, Messiah, in an exhilarating match of field hockey in addition to winning a championship title with women's lacrosse in 2014.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside Arcadia? What are some interesting things people may not know about you?

Some interesting hobbies and facts of mine that people might not know about me is that I love to crochet and that I love competing over pretty much anything. In regards to my crochet, I have recently started off with making a crooked scarf and now I can honestly make anything. I also like going for walks and hikes with my two-year-old daughter as well as watching sports on television.

What makes Arcadia student-athletes special to you?

Our students and athletes are both resilient and are not afraid to express themselves outside their comfort zone. Their love for the sports they play and ability to balance all aspects of their college life (sport, academics, work, internships, study abroad, etc.) is what makes them special in my eyes and, depending on whatever they choose to do, our culture here at Arcadia will never change. The culture has been rooted here and provides our students and athletes with the best possible experience.

How are you coping with the challenges that the COVID-19 has brought on, and what is one piece of advice you have for student-athletes dealing with similar challenges?

Since we started quarantine, Zoom meetings with my two-year-old and balancing all aspects of my job while taking care of my daughter has definitely helped me to grow personally and professionally. It has also given me time to get back outside and exercise more. Advice for students and athletes is to GET MOVING; having so much work that needs to be completed while sitting at a computer can add up quickly. You need to get outside as much as possible and move around.
