Eli Porr
Head Men's Volleyball Coach
What is your role and responsibilities at Arcadia?
My responsibility as the Head Men's Volleyball Coach is not only to maintain the values and wellness of our athletes, but to also help them grow into organized, young adults. I also serve as part of our event staff to carry out and make sure our women's volleyball, field hockey, and soccer games run smoothly. All in all, I do consider myself a life coach to my team by assisting them in sorting through things in life and their career.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Arcadia? What is the best memory you have working in our athletics staff?
There are plenty of memories that our athletics staff have been through and, to be honest, it's hard to pick one. However, I feel like Arcadia has a tight-knit environment, incredible students, as well as a staff of coaches and student-athletes that honestly care about one another and, in return, we allow students to feel wanted and supported in any scenario.
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside Arcadia? What are some interesting things people may not know about you?
I have always been an outdoors person and some things people might not know about me are that I constantly participate in different activities from biking, swimming, to playing in volleyball tournaments on grass or sand. The outdoor life is something I just take to, and any chance I get I try to do one of those activities.
What makes Arcadia student-athletes special to you?
These student-athletes have the attention span and capacity to continuously get better everyday and achieve greatness. You can physically see it on or off the court, especially the culture each one of them brings to the table. They are focused and agile to maneuver around any obstacle life throws at them and if for some reason they're not there, then it is our job to get them there.
How are you coping with the challenges that the COVID-19 has brought on, and what is one piece of advice you have for student-athletes dealing with similar challenges?
Personally, I am good to go. I live in a manner that reduces stress and puts a point of emphasis on the important things such as friends, family, and taking care of one another. To our student-athletes who are going through something during this terrible virus, I encourage you to simply breathe and I want you to know that everything is temporary. Don't get worked up with the things you can't control but rather control the controllables.
