2021-22 Community Service

The Arcadia University Department of Athletics & Recreation values its relationships with local organizations, and in recent years, many Arcadia student-athletes and staff have donated their time and energy to giving back to the community. Community service projects span over the course of the entire academic year. This year the commitment to community service continues.

Women's Ice Hockey - Snider Hockey Clinic - 15 participants - 42 total hours
The Arcadia women's ice hockey program helped teach hockey to youth players

Men's Ice Hockey - Habitat for Humanity Rock the Block - 7 participants - 21 total hours
The Arcadia men's ice hockey program helped build community gardens, plant trees, and clean up the community

Men's Basketball - Special Olympus Basketball Practice - 18 participants - 27 total hours
The Arcadia men's basketball program assisted Special Olympus athletes at basketball practice

Men's Soccer - JRA Food Distribution - 19 participants - 28.5 total hours
The Arcadia men's soccer program packed boxes of food to be distributed to families in need

The Arcadia men's soccer program assisted, motivated, and supported Special Olympics athletes at volleyball practice

The Arcadia men's and women's tennis programs sorted new and gently-used sports and playground equipment at the warehouse that was donated from the local youth sports community

Esports - All Abilities Program with Ideate and Philly Esports - 32 participants - 250 total hours
The Arcadia Esports program helped gamers with disabilities gain exposure to the Esports community by having them practice with and compete against Arcadia Esports

Men's Ice Hockey - Philadelphia Youth Special Hockey - 11 participants - 22 total hours
The Arcadia men's ice hockey program helped youth hockey players with special needs learn to play hockey.

December 4
Men's and Women's Golf - Rubye's Kids - 16 Participants - 48 total hours
The Arcadia men's and women's golf teams took part in Rubye's Kids Holiday Party - an organization that assists with children living in shelters - by helping pack holiday gift bags to ensure a happy holiday season for all.

Men's Volleyball - Arcadia University Empty Bowl - 3 Participants - 6 total hours
The Arcadia men's volleyball program assisted with the Empty Bowl event on campus.

November 14
Baseball - Anderson Monarchs Baseball Clinic - 43 Participants - 86 total hours
The Arcadia baseball program hosted a free baseball clinic for the Anderson Monarchs of Philadelphia, giving players from 7th-12th grade the opportunity to take instruction from college baseball players and tour the campus.

Softball - St. Jude Children's Hospital Holiday Cards - 24 Participants - 24 total hours
The softball team took part in the Cards for Hospitalized Kids program and made holiday cards for children ages six months to 18 years old across the state of Pennsylvania.

Softball - Phillies Urban Youth Academy Clinic - 25 Participants - 125 total hours
The softball program hosted a clinic with the Phillies Urban Youth Academy to teach local youth softball players the offensive and defensive fundamentals of the game.

Men's Lacrosse - Special Olympics Volleyball Practice and Tournament - 30 total hours
Men's Lacrosse helped create an enjoyable experience assisting the Special Olympics at volleyball practice and a volleyball tournament

October 24
Men's Lacrosse - Dome Set-Up/Break Down/Carpet Roll-Up - 93 total hours
Men's Lacrosse assisted with set up, break down, and roll-up of the carpet for the dome

Women's Soccer - Kehillah Soccer League - 29 Participants - 130.5 total hours
The women's soccer team helped run a Kehillah Soccer League clinic for a variety of age and skill levels from Pre-K to 4th grade.

Women's Basketball - Special Olympics Volleyball - 10 Participants - 20 total hours
Members of the women's basketball program helped run a local Special Olympics volleyball practice.

Men's Lacrosse - Jewish Relief Agency October Food Distribution - 39 Participants - 129 total hours
Members of the men's lacrosse program helped pack, deliver, and distribute meals to families in need in the Greater Philadelphia Area through the Jewish Relief Agency.

October 16
Men's and Women's Tennis - Cheltenham Youth Tennis College Day - 18 Participants - 86 total hours
Members of the men's and women's tennis programs connected with a local youth tennis group to promote college opportunities and discus Division III athletics. The teams also donated used nets and tennis gear to the organization to help grow the game.

Men's Ice Hockey - JDRF One Walk - 24 Participants - 72 total hours
Members of the men's ice hockey program took part in the JDRF One Walk that raised $3,775 for type one diabetes awareness.

September 24
Men's Volleyball - Octoberfest - 17 Participants - 68 total hours
Members of the men's volleyball program helped with the Octoberfest event at a local church with setup and breakdown.

September 23
Women's Basketball - Special Olympics Volleyball Practice - 16 participants - 32 total hours
Members of the women's basketball team assisted and cheered on Special Olympians at volleyball practice

September 20 (Semester-long)
Women's Lacrosse - Women's Center of Montgomery County Thrift Shop - 22 Participants - 110 total hours
The Second Chances Thrift Shoppe received assistance from the women's lacrosse program throughout the fall semester with sorting through donations, steaming clothes, organizing racks, and greeting customers. Proceeds from the Women's Center Thrift Shop support domestic violence programs, benefitting victims of family violence.

August 25-26
Athletic Department - Move-In Day - 212 Participants - 726 total hours
Members of the athletic department staff, coaches, and student-athletes assisted with first-year move-in days on campus.

August 25
Black Alumni Association of Arcadia University School Supply Drive - Hours distributed evenly among participating teams
Members of the athletic department staff, coaches and student-athlete collected and donated school supplies, benefiting third grade students of William Rowen Elementary School in nearby Philadelphia.
