Elizabeth Holton Weiss played three Varsity sports all four years of her college career.  She was Captain of the Lacrosse team her senior year and receiving the Lady Applebee Award.

Betty’s contributions to the college didn’t end when she graduated. She coached Tennis, Field Hockey and Basketball at Arcadia for 25 years, earning Coach of the Year recognition.  After the college became co-ed in 1972, Betty initiated the first men’s team in Tennis and later took both men’s and women’s teams to the NAIA National Tournament (three times for the men).

Today, Betty is nationally ranked in Senior Women’s Tennis in singles and doubles.  The new tennis courts at Arcadia were named in honor of Betty in May 2000.  Betty’s greatest moment on the tennis court happened decades ago when she played Althea Gibson, then New York State Champion.  Betty played Althea before she became famous, and Althea did win the match.  But according to Betty, Althea was nice and very supportive of her game.
