Virginia Junkin Walls was a standout athlete at Beaver College, playing five intercollegiate sports while a student. Walls organized the rifle team in 1936 and it became a varsity sport in 1937. In 1936, Virginia Walls was awarded the Women's Rifle Championship Medal for the United States. In field hockey, she was named to the All-Southeast Team, First Team Washington, DC and Second Team Philadelphia. She was invited to play with the US Field Hockey Team at the Pan American Games. After graduation, she went on to teach rifle and one of her students went on to win the gold medal at the 1948 Olympics in London. Walls also won several amateur golf championships, including the Presidents Cup in Great Falls, Virginia, playing until she was 85 years old. Walls passed away in January 2013.
