Dr. Emily Mackinnon, affectionately called "Mrs. Mac," is credited for the leadership of Physical Education at Beaver College. From the late 1940s through the mid-1960s, she was the Department Chair,. Dr. Mackinnon earned two bachelor's degrees - one in English from the University of Oregon and one in Physical Education from Wellesley College in Physical Education - a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in Education from Columbia University. She officiated many games and also was a national leader in field hockey with a reputation of professional accomplishment and excellence.
